Philadelphia has a 6.87 team ERA - the worst in the National League. Would anyone bet they finish the year last in the NL in ERA? I dont think so. It amazes me how quickly fantasy owners make knee-jerk reactions after a week or two of games. If the Phillies were struggling this bad with their pitching in late June, it would just be a slump. Since it comes at the beginning of the season - it is considered a trend.
Here are some other trends worth noting - the Oakland As have only three home runs this season as a team entering play Monday.
The Reds are batting .210 as a team with Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips in terrible slumps - each batting .176.
Morale of the story on trends: If you are in a league with people willing to hit the panic button so soon - go acquire some Phillies pitchers, As hitters and try to get Bruce and Phillips. You know they wont struggle all season.
PLAYER TO WATCH
The top-rated American League second baseman after two weeks of play is . . .? Aaron Hill of the Blue Jays . He was a .291 hitter two seasons ago and could be worth an addition to your team.
