Florida Marlins: Marlins use Cody Ross off mound
Apr. 26, 2009 (Sun Sentinel delivered by Newstex ) --

No, that wasn't the first time Cody Ross had pitched against quality competition.

First time in a regular-season game, but as a Tigers prospect he once worked several spring training games in 2001 as that organization considered turning him into a two-way weapon.

So when Ross mopped up with a scoreless ninth in the Marlins' 13-2 loss to the Phillies on Sunday, it was probably no accident he enjoyed himself so much. Or that he even broke out a knuckle curve to Ryan Howard, who eventually flied out.

Ross was pumping strikes up there (12 in 19 tries) at 84 mph as he joined Nick Swisher (Yankees) as the only position players to pitch so far this year.

Ross even sounded up for trying it again, although the Marlins are hoping their bullpen will never get as depleted as it did this weekend against the rampaging Phillies.

And so another series sweep goes in the books as the Marlins head out to New York and Chicago. Now 11-7 with a six-game losing streak hanging over their heads, this isn't exactly how they wanted to roll into the big city.

What sort of showing do you expect this week?
