It took nearly two months, but Adam Eaton finally earned his first victory of the season.

Actually, by allowing one run in six innings Wednesday night against the injury-riddled Rockies, Eaton earned only his second win in 21 starts dating to last season. He also avoided the ignominy of inching closer to Ken Reynolds' Phillies record of 16 starts to open a season without a win.

"I was nervous, to be honest with you," said Eaton, who had been winless in his first 10 starts. "It was a weird feeling. It was nice to get the first one out of the way (in) the last week of May."

Eaton, the Phillies' No. 5 starter who posted a disappointing 6.29 ERA last season, has had a seesaw 2008. After opening the season with three straight quality starts in which his ERA was 4.12, Eaton went 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA in his next six starts.

But in his last two starts, he has allowed only four runs in 13 innings for a 2.77 ERA.

Against a Rockies lineup that didn't include injured Troy Tulowitzki, Matt Holliday or Brad Hawpe, Eaton allowed four hits and struck out four, lowering his overall ERA to 4.99 in 11 starts.

His improved performance comes as rehabbing Kris Benson prepares to make his first minor league start Sunday for Class A Clearwater. Benson, who is attempting to come back from right shoulder surgery in March 2007, could vie for Eaton's spot in the rotation if his recovery continues to go well.

"(Eaton) has been a little more aggressive," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's stayed out of a big inning. If he can get us to the sixth, seventh inning, he'll be OK."

PHILLIES 6, ROCKIES 1: Chase Utley snapped a tie with a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and the Phillies completed a three-game sweep of the injury-riddled Rockies at Citizens Bank Park. Utley leads the majors with 17 home runs. Geoff Jenkins stroked a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead and help Adam Eaton to his first victory of the season. Eaton allowed one run on four hits in six innings. The Phillies outscored the Rockies 33-10 in the series to move to a season-high seven games over .500. It was their first series sweep of the season. Shane Victorino picked up three hits to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
