Philadelphia Phillies Notes, Quotes 2008-10-29
--LHP Cole Hamels hoped he'd have a chance to pitch the Phillies to their first World Series championship since 1980. Mother Nature had other plans.

Hamels surrendered two runs in six innings before the game was postponed by rain. When it resumes Wednesday night, weather-permitting, the Phils will use a relief pitcher for the seventh inning.

"It's not the way you want to finish your last start of the year," Hamels said. "But you just have to let Mother Nature win. I trust our bullpen and our hitters to get it done."

Hamels had a 2-1 lead before Carlos Pena's two-out hit in the top of the sixth tied the score.

--LF Pat Burrell collected two walks in the first five innings Monday night. But Burrell remains hitless in the World Series, 0-for-13. Burrell, the longest-tenured member of the Phillies, will be a free agent after the season.

--CF Shane Victorino collected his first RBIs of the World Series with a two-out, two-run single in the first inning. It was his fifth hit of the World Series. Entering the game, Victorino was batting .271 (13-for-48) with two homers and a team-leading 11 RBIs in the postseason. His 13 RBIs are a franchise record for a single postseason.

Victorino's two-run hit was followed by Pedro Feliz single that loaded the bases but didn't score a run. The Phillies then went hitless in their next four at-bats with runners in scoring position.

BY THE NUMBERS: 5 -- Quality starts for LHP Cole Hamels in this year's postseason. He earned wins in his first four starts, but he figures to wind up with a no-decision in Game 5. No pitcher has ever won five starts in a single postseason.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Nothing's ever been easy. Jimmy Rollins said it awhile back. That's the Philly way, and I'm starting to see that now. It sucks, but what choice do we have?" -- RHP Brad Lidge, on having to come back two days later to complete Game 5 of the World Series.
