Philadelphia Phillies Notes, Quotes 2009-05-04
--RHP Chan Ho Park will stay in the Phillies' starting rotation, even after his latest dismal performance -- seven runs, eight hits, six walks in 4-2/3 innings Friday night against the New York Mets. Pitching coach Rich Dubee said Sunday that Park will make his next scheduled start Wednesday night against the Mets in New York. Park is 0-1 with an 8.57 ERA and 11 walks in 21 innings over four starts. Among his biggest problems: He often has appeared reluctant to pitch inside. During spring training, Park edged LHP J.A. Happ for the No. 5 starter job by posting a 2.53 ERA, 25 strikeouts and three walks. "He was more aggressive in spring training," manager Charlie Manuel said of Park. "He went after guys."

--2B Chase Utley didn't play Saturday after being hit by a pitch on the right foot in the first inning Friday night. And although manager Charlie Manuel said Utley suffered an egg-sized bruise, the injury isn't considered serious. Utley even pinch-hit in the eighth inning and lined to right field. "I'm sure he does have an egg on his foot, and I'm sure he probably wants to play with that," GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He's fine. He's just getting a day off."

BY THE NUMBERS: 6.71 -- ERA of the Phillies' starting pitchers through Sunday, worst in the majors and nearly a full run worse than the next-worst team (Cleveland, 5.82).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's kind of our forte. We get in their bullpen, work the starter. We've got a lot of guys that play good under pressure. This whole team is kind of built that way. So, this fits into our gameplan." -- RF Jayson Werth, after the Phillies' latest comeback victory, a 10-inning, 6-5 win over the Mets last Sunday.
