Phillieshome.com | Philadelphia Phillies News, phillies Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - There were few roster spots up for grabs this spring, but the Phillies did answer several health-related questions. Both 2B Chase Utley and 3B Pedro Feliz proved they're ready to open the season on time after having offseason surgeries, and ace Cole Hamels overcame lingering tightness in his elbow.
PLAYER NEWS: --C Carlos Ruiz left Friday's game after the sixth inning because of a strained muscle in his rib cage. On Saturday, he may go on the DL. Manager Charlie Manuel said Ruiz would be re-evaluated before Saturday's game, but C Lou Marson of Class AAA Lehigh Valley was en route Friday night in case Ruiz was unable to play. "I've had that injury," Manuel said. "I'm not a doctor, but if that's what it is, if it's a strained rib cage, you're talking at least a week to maybe two weeks." Ruiz tweaked the oblique muscle while tracking Chris Iannetta's foul pop to the backstop to end the Colorado Rockies' five-run third inning in Friday's 10-3 loss. He remained in the game, even getting a fourth-inning at-bat, before being replaced by backup catcher Chris Coste in the seventh. "That is an old kind of injury that you used to get if you hit the fence or turn real quick or something," Manuel said. "You can't breathe. It takes awhile for it to heal."
--RF Jayson Werth likes hitting in Coors Field. So, after going 1-for-11 with one RBI in the Phillies' season-opening three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, Werth busted out Friday by going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a solo homer in the series opener against the Colorado Rockies. It was his fifth career game with four or more hits and first since Aug. 27, 2007, against the New York Mets. Last season, Werth hit an inside-the-park homer at Coors Field. He is 20-for-61 (.328) with seven doubles, four home runs and five RBIs in 16 career games in Colorado.
--RHP Chad Durbin has allowed four runs in two innings, including three in the eighth inning Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Last season, Durbin posted a 2.87 ERA and led NL relievers with 87 2/3 innings pitched. "With a little work, I think we can get Durbin back to where he was throwing last year," manager Charlie Manuel said.

LHP Cole Hamels (left elbow stiffness) received an anti-inflammatory injection March 17. He will make his first regular season start April 10.
