--LF Raul Ibanez recorded his 800th career RBI with a solo home run in the seventh inning. Ibanez has gotten off to a hot start in his first season with the Phillies. Batting primarily in the No. 6 spot, he leads the team with three home runs and a .690 slugging percentage and is tied for second with six RBIs in seven games. Ibanez, who signed a three-year, $37.5 million contract in December, is replacing popular LF Pat Burrell. The Phillies allowed Burrell to go to the Tampa Bay Rays via free agency. "I like Ibanez," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's going to be fine."
--LHP Scott Eyre pitched in his third straight game Monday and needed only three pitches to get Nationals 1B Nick Johnson to ground out to end the seventh inning. Eyre, the Phillies' primary left-handed reliever while J.C. Romero serves a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, hasn't allowed a run in three appearances (1 2/3 innings).
MEDICAL WATCH:
