--C Lou Marson went 2-for-3 with a double and threw out a runner at second base in his first start of the season Thursday night. It was enough to impress manager Charlie Manuel. Asked if the 22-year-old can become an impact player in the majors, Manuel said, "If he can take his hitting to the next stage, I think he can. He improved a lot last year, but now, he's getting set to step up into another stage."
--LF Raul Ibanez moved back into the No. 5 spot in the Phillies' lineup and went 3-for-3 to raise his average to .361. Without the fear of facing a lefty in the late innings -- the Padres don't have any lefties on their pitching staff -- manager Charlie Manuel put lefty-swinging Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Ibanez back-to-back-to-back in the middle of the lineup. Utley went 2-for-5 with a three-run first-inning homer, raising his career RBI total to 500. Howard went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts.
