--LHP J.A. Happ will start the nightcap of Saturday's day-night doubleheader in Washington. Happ narrowly lost the fifth starter job in spring training, and although he has posted a 2.75 ERA in the bullpen, manager Charlie Manuel said Saturday isn't an audition for a rotation spot. "If we have to make adjustments, of course there will be a place for Happ," Manuel said. "Will this one start make or break him as far as being a starter in our rotation? I don't think so." RHP Brett Myers will pitch the opener of the doubleheader.
--LHP J.C. Romero will begin a 16-day minor league assignment Monday, barring a rainout in the Phillies' schedule. Romero is eligible to be activated June 3 at San Diego after serving his 50-game suspension for violating MLB's drug policy. He'll pitch for the Phillies' nearest affiliates, Class AAA Lehigh Valley, Class AA Reading and Class A Lakewood, according to GM Ruben Amaro Jr. "I've been working on my command," said Romero, who has been pitching in extended spring training games in Clearwater, Fla. "I'm trying to just get that right mentality so that when I come back I'm ready to go." --SS Jimmy Rollins led off the second inning Wednesday night with a homer, only his second of the season. For the second consecutive game, Rollins batted in the No. 5 spot in the Phillies' lineup. He typically is the Phillies' leadoff hitter but he was batting .195 with a .231 on-base percentage when manager Charlie Manuel made the lineup change Tuesday. CF Shane Victorino has been batting in the leadoff spot in Rollins' place.
